The hiking trail follows a natural run-off stream connecting the Oak Bluff community at the top of Green Mountain to the large greenspace below the bluff where it ties into the city of Huntsville greenway system
The first trail is called Buzzard Falls. The trail was built by local residents and gets its name from the bussard that lives nearby who is affectionately known as Buzzy. Buzzard Falls is a moderately strenuous trail that includes a relatively steep climb down the bluff over rocky and often wet terrain. It is a loop of about 1 mile in total length that leads from the end of the cul-de-sac and travels along the scenic bluff, eventually connecting up to Alum Hollow Trail in the Land Trust preserve. Alum Hollow Trail is named after the Alum Caves found on this trail. The huge rock formation that makes up this cave consists of alum stone. This easy trail, which has a distance of 2.2 miles out and back, is a great hiking destination for all skill levels featuring large outcroppings and waterfalls.
One of the most important amenities at Oak Bluff is the proximity to hundreds of acres of undeveloped, protected land, including Land Trust preserves which adjoin Oak Bluff’s wooded sanctuary. In order to ensure development is harmonious with the natural setting of Green Mountain, and to protect property values, homes built in Oak Bluff are subject to architectural review and other covenants or restrictions.
